President Elect

Well on Tuesday, the 4Th, new history for America was made. As you should know by now, Obama was the first African-American, or Black person to ever be elected to one of the highest seats in the world, President of the US. I think it's pretty cool to be able to tell my kids, and grandkids that I watched him be elected.
But, not to sound racist, but was he elected because of what he stands for, or was it simply because he is a minority? He had one of the biggest minorities turn out votes ever. Like I said, I'm not racist, so don’t think it; but it seemed like that was one of the main reasons for people to vote for him, when they were asked on TV.
At any-rate, it's still pretty cool that it happened; let’s just hope he knows what he's doing, and does what he says he's going to do.

DUBAI

I was watching a show about Dubai, on the Discovery Channel the other day, it was so amazing, some of their buildings are the highest in the world. And, it's all owned by one singel person, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, he is basicly the king of Dubai, his family took charge back in the mid 1800s.
This Island, is doing nothing but getting bigger and bigger, they have several other Islands, all these islands were made by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with billions of tones of sand to make them, so that way more people can live there. This is basicly a world of its owned, they have indoor ski mountains to ski on, and all the snow is fack. A hotel and restrant that everything (as far as dishes go) are glass, it was weird watching about Dubai. Everything is owned by one guy, and everything goes through him.
I wonder what causes him to do all this, its like simcity for the average person, do you think it's just something he enjoys doing, making some of the worlds most awesome buildings? And they are amazing, here is a link, so you can see some of them, http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=dubai&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Fey Vs. Palin

Tina Fey, of Saturday Night Live has made a name for her self, as you may know, she has been doing reenactments, if you will, of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. I wounder if something like this has an effect of how people will vote. Fey, does a really good job at acting like Palin, it's kind of scary watching how good she is. However, they do make-fun of both parties.

So even though Tina Fey does a great job at making-fun of Sarah Palin will it effect peoples vote? I don't think it will, I mean just because she does do a good impression does not mean people think that's how Sarah Palin i in real life. And they also make-fun of the other party too. One of their first Palin impersonations, was also with Hilary Clinton, and Hilary, said "the media needs to grow a pair, and if they couldn't they could use hers" (You can see it on YouTube here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jGcrfH0KjM) but just because some actor says something about another person does not mean it's going to change a persons opinion about them.

I like Sarah Palin, but just because Saturday Night Live makes-fun of her does not mean I like her less, in fact, it kind of makes me like her better. So what do you think? Do shows like Saturday Night Live change a persons opinion on another person? or could it?

DOES OUR VOTE COUNT?

During any election, but manly the Presidential elections, does our vote really count? Could it be where people with higher power already know who will be the next president, but they make us feel like we have a chose, and have to power to vote into office who we want. Media is so world wide, any average Joe can state his opinion on the Internet and try to persuade other people the vote for the person he likes. Is this just something to make us feel more like we have a say. You hear all the time how we live in a free country, (which it's a lot better than any country out there) but come-on, we don't get to vote for who we want for president, if that was the case I'd vote for Mike Huckabee, but it's the people with the power who says who we get to vote for, they narrow it down to two people, that we get to vote between.

We do get to vote, but does it count? Today the media makes us, (the people) feel like we hold such a strong seat when it comes to elections, we get to state our opinions, we get to vote for who we want, we can even make our own blog, to project our believes to anyone who will read it.

So what do you think, does the government already know who will be the next president and does the media play it up so we think we need to vote, or does our vote really count?

WHAT WAS IT LIKE?

Back in the day, no one had a computer, the Internet, cell phones and a lot of people didn't even have a TV. It's weird to think how our parents got by with out it, now-a-days you couldn't find a house that doesn't have all that stuff.

Today people always complain that their, "computer is too slow," and I one of those people; our computer at home is dial-up, and it takes a day and a half just to check my e-mail. But when you sit back and think about it, at least I have a computer and the Internet. I don't have to write my English papers on a typewriter, one mistake and you have to start that whole paper over.

I often wonder what our parents thought the future would be like, was it the same way we think today? What more do we need, as far as technology? I mean, how else could we get more advanced? I'm not saying that we're not going to get more advanced, but if you don't have it, what are you missing out on? Not many people go to the library to find a book to do research for an English paper today; I never do anyway. But our parents did, they didn't have a computer to do it on, they weren't even around, so what were they missing out on? Really, nothing.

So if you sit back and think about it, what are our kids going to have that we never even thought about? We have the Internet, we're doing good, you can find anything you want on anything, and you can find it in less than five minutes...so what is the future of technology going to be like? How much less will people be interacting with other people, and how much more will people be interacting with computers?

My question to you is, what was it like, and what is it going to be like? Will it continue to change drastically as it has in the past 50 years? It's hard to say.

CELLPHONES VS. LANDLINES

For years now the people running for president have called people on there home phone. Today only 22.3% of younger people have land line phones. Even I have a land line but i never use it, I'll always wait until after 9 to call or I just text.

So is the delima of so many cellphones going to hurt this presidential election? I highly doubt it; it might be harder for them to call us and tell us what there plans are. However, most senors still have landlines, but are they trying to get senors out to vote, for the most part, they'll either vote or not, and there wont be much changing their minds. This election is dependent on the younger generation, (or so it seems).

So the younger generation, (us) don't really have home phones, we really don't watch a lot of the news, and we really don't have time to read the newspaper, (we have too much reading to do for college anyway). But the one thing our generation has, that although they my know of it, senors don't really use it, and most the time, neither do our parents, we have myspace, facebook, hi5, and countless others. There hasn't been a day that I've signed into myspace without seeing an add for either McCain, or Obama.

I don't see cellphones having an effect on the election, at least not for the worse. Cellphones might help one of the parties, for instance, Obama has an add on TV telling viewers to text "HOPE" to 62262, and if you do this you will receive information on his campaign. If one person does this, they send that information to there friend, and so forth.

So if you ask me, I don't think cellphones will effect this election for the worse.
